A taste of Switzerland on the Sunshine Coast in Western Canada
After a one-hour drive along the windy Sunshine Coast Highway, we will get at the foot of Mount Daniel. This beautiful hike takes us up the hill along giant sword ferns on a steep trail partially in a creek bed. After an hour, we reach the summit with a stunning view to Pender Harbour and area. While enjoying our cheese fondue, we hear about Mount Daniel being still a sacred site for the Sechelt Indian Band whose young women built the ancient “moon rings” of stone on the summit during their coming of age ceremonies. Sometimes you can hear drums and watch the eagles hover above.
Level: steep hike, can be muddy (2-3h), wear sturdy shoes
